New Student Orientation for Bachelor's Students

This information is for new undergraduate (bachelor’s) degree students only. Graduate (master’s and PhD) students do not participate in UWM's New Student Orientation. All new international students will participate in the F-1/J-1 Student Orientation, listed in Step 4 on the Newly Admitted Students page

All new freshmen and transfer students must participate in the New Student Orientation. Follow these steps:

Indicate your intention to enroll in classes at UWM by completing the Intent to Enroll item in your PAWS account. Completion of that item will unlock a Pre-Orientation Guide and an invitation to register for the New Student Orientation in your PAWS account.  Also determine if you need to be placed in math or English level courses

Once you have completed course placement activities and the New Student Orientation, you will be prompted to make an appointment with your Academic Advisor to register for courses.

UWM's New Student Orientation overs such topics as:
  • Campus resources
  • Community resources
  • Academic expectations
  • Prepare to meet an academic advisor
  • Connect with other new student
